Green Gold
It has been a wonderful week of Olympics. To watch the athletes performing excellence in each feat and then claim their medals, has been a feast for the eyes. The timing cannot be anymore perfect. While we watched the gold medalists with admiration, mother nature is quietly churning out her own version of gold. I call it green gold! Let me explain.
Here is how I got into the Sunflower mania. Its beauty was captured as part one and part two. With this I thought my job was done. But no, nature had more to tell me. Wild breezes broke off the tall stalk, which I had been monitoring on a daily basis. It was a blessing in disguise as it had become too tall (eight feet) for me to take close up photos of. But now it was happily resting on the floor, as if posing for my camera! Well much to my joy I found that the inner most green elements which I thought were sepals, were actually petals slowly changing their color from green to yellow ochre. After four months of watching this plant grow the yellow seems more like green gold to me
So here are some photos of the same, which make up the missing link between part one and part two series.
Well Van Gogh had his Sunflowers auctioned off for a great price, many years after his demise. But for me the joy of planting them, watching them grow and then capturing their evolution has been priceless. It is like a piece of sculpture which changes in shape, size and color with the passage of time. In doing so it creates an enigmatic beauty which I call green gold
