Green
Of late, there has been too much of yellow and red in this blog. So in an effort to complete the trinity of the traffic signal, its time to go green
As the spring slowly inches forward, its delightful to notice signs of life, in tiny hints of green. The Maple bride has started draping herself in fluorescent green and Hydrangea is displaying few baby leaves in deep green (see below).
While I am talking about traffic signal and changing to green, its also a good time to change the gears of this blog from literature to architecture. Hence the theme of this post is ‘Green Architecture’. As per my planned schedule, this blog is overdue for an architectural post. But so as not to create an architectural fatigue, it has been decided to spread this schedule over a longer stretch of time. Hence in the following months you will find this schedule generously sprinkled with non-architectural posts.
Now back to green architecture. Green seems to be in vogue now days. Go through any magazine or major newspaper and you are likely to find at least one article on green architecture. Here are the links to four articles, which I thought were worth mentioning:
- 1. The New Trophy Home, Small and Ecological
- 2. Green Roofs For Healthy Cities
- 3. Yes, They could. So They Did…….this is about green cars.
- 4. Harnessing The Sun, With Help From Cities
All of these articles deal with the implementation of simple ideas, to reduce the energy bill of a built environment. In the pastiche of such an energy savvy media, I find it most appropriate to share with you, the design of a T.V. Factory. Although I had designed it as a student of architecture in 1985, the innovative ideas in its green design will benefit many, even today. In a class of 33 students, this design proposal had topped all by a huge margin. So it makes me very happy to air it out on this blog, almost 24 years later! So watch out for the next post, on this design, about a week later.
