Pink & Blue

Some time back I read a funny cartoon. In it a writer was sitting with his laptop, in the shade of a palm tree, on a sunny beach. And he was writing, ” It was a stormy night…” :)

Well, here in the Northeast of America, this summer’s weather is really inspirational to write. If I were to write a novel now, it would begin like this:

It was the summer of 2009 in the Northeast of America. It would rain for three to four days in a row and make it feel like a tropical rain forest. This would be followed by a day of brief sunshine. The evening on such a day would be especially colorful, as if to make up for the dullness of the cloudy skies before. To match with the colors of father sky, mother earth would give birth to flowers bearing his complexion. Though sometimes she wondered if it was father sky, who was copying the colors of the flowers… (see above :) )

Anyway, this past fourth of July I too was on a beach. Reading, not writing. Now that I am back to the normalcy of my weekly routine, I thought why not write about the book that I just read. So coming in my next post is a book review of Unaccustomed Earth written by the highly acclaimed writer, Jhumpa Lahiri.
