Tango In Architecture – 2
In continuation of the previous post, here are the drawings that illustrate the different forms the arena takes for different functions. But before that you can see the site plan which explains the context of this arena.
Now for the Tango. Just watch the changing elevations. The permanent columns symbolize male in the Tango and the fabric symbolizes female. Of course 20 years back I didn’t see it as Tango!
1. Design of Open Air Theatre (Capacity: 10,200 seated people)
This is designed for the following activities:
- Music concerts
- Poetry recital sessions
- National debates
- Election speeches by political leaders
- Space for political and social expression
- Celebrating national level victories
- Folk dance, drama etc to entertain foreigners and diplomats.
2. Design for Republic Day Parade (Capacity: 12,285 people)
On this day the public views a long parade of Indian Armed Forces and folk dances etc. Hence the design consists of covered seating on two sides for the audience. The middle zone is left open for the moving parade.
- To be continued in the next post.
