Books of Short Stories in the Current Market
All the clippings from the previous post indicate that the market for short stories is definitely warming up. Once the iTunes-ization of short stories begins and Kindle starts offering short stories every month, then short stories will be a hot commodity in the market. In the pastiche of all these positive indications, now is a good time to put together a survey of books of short stories. In the past few months, I have read and reviewed two such books. They are as follows:
- 1. Unaccustomed Earth………………………………………………………………………………review by me.
- 2. In the Convent of Little Flowers……………………………………………………………….review by me.
Besides these, there are many more books in the current market, which I have not read. However there reviews have appeared in the media. Here is a listing of the same for easy reference:
3. Something Is Out There: Stories……………………………………………………………………….review by NYT
4. Apparition & Late Fictions: A Novella and Stories……………………………………………….review by NYT
5. Everything Here Is the Best Thing Ever: Stories…………………………………………………..review by NYT
6. Best European Fiction 2010…………………………review by Time. This is an anthology of short stories.
7. Fun with Problems…………………………………………………………………………………………review by NYT
8. Wild Child: and Other Stories……………………………………………………………………………review by NYT
9. Everything Ravaged, Everything Burned: Stories………………………………………………..review by NYT
10. The First Person: And Other Stories………………………………………………………………..review by NYT
11. Both Ways Is The Only Way I Want It………………………………………………………………review by Time
12. Love And Obstacles………………………………………………………………………………………review by NYT
13. In Other Rooms, Other Wonders……………………………………………………………………..review by NYT
14. The Thing Around Your Neck…………………………………………………………………………review by NYT
15. One More Year: Stories…………………………………………………………………………………review by NYT
16. The Mother Garden: Stories…………………………………………………………………………..review by NYT
Well, these are just the ones that caught my eye, for I am sure that there might be many more in the current market. As a reader of this blog, if you know of any other, then please feel free to let me know. With all this information digitally consolidated in one blog post, it is easy to see the big picture. Now I can delete all the hard copies (i.e. clippings) of these reviews! With so many books having paved the way, my book too shall be in the market, sooner or later. As I wrap up this post, with the backing of all this information, in the next post I shall present why my book needs to get published.
