Magnolias: Present & Past
One of the many blessings of Spring is to watch plants and trees that bear flowers first and leaves much later. A few of my favorites are Forsythia, Cherry tree, Dogwoods, Redbud and Magnolias. It is like God’s gift to mankind for putting up with a long, dreary, gray winter
. Its amazing how quickly one forgets the winter when one sees these flowers. Currently Magnolias are at their peak in my neighborhood.
No matter how many Springs I have seen, each year it feels like the first one. It has a phenomenal power to refresh the eyes and floods me with enthusiasm to paint in watercolors. The Magnolias above are from the present and here are two paintings that I made in the past.
Two Magnolias (1991) |
Magnolias (1997) |
As I wrap up this post, here is a quote (anonymous) that expresses the state of my mind very well.
Spring is a watercolor
Summer is an oil painting
Fall is a medley and
Winter is an etching.
