To All The Publishers & Literary Agents

 THE WORLD OF ‘IFS’

If you are a publisher or a literary agent, reading this post, then chances are that you have already read my book proposal. If you are not, but know someone who is a publisher or a literary agent, then please pass the link of this post to him or her. If you are a publisher or a literary agent and wondering why you should represent this book, by a first time author, then here are several reasons.

  • I am a South Asian woman, trained as an architect, who resides in USA. Hence I bring my uniqueness to this book. It has been written with the cultural richness of my Indian roots and the professionalism plus structured thinking of my Western wings.
  • The book consists of a dozen short stories painted with the colors of four issues, namely: human passions ( Architecture, painting, gardening and writing), globalization, contrast of East and West and womens’ issues. If you want to know, whether I have enough knowledge of these subjects, then see for yourself at these links: Architecture is here. Painting is here. Gardening is here. Writing is here. As for the remaining three issues, my background speaks for my understanding of them.
  • If you want to know how do I decide what to write about, then read this.
  • If you want to know how I structure my stories, then read this.
  • If you are wondering about the potential of my success as a writer, then read this.
  • Many Indian women writers have paved the way for me to become a recognized author, through this book. Here are some examples: Jhumpa Lahiri, Arundhati Roy and Kiran Desai. Although we are all unique, what I have in common with each of them is as follows:

Jhumpa Lahiri – writing short stories and western exposure.

Arundhati Roy – my Indian roots and architectural education.

Kiran Desai – blend of East and West background.

  • Now if you are wondering if this book will sell well, see what happened to a similar book.
  • If you are wondering whether it will be a success, here is what happened to the books written by the above three women:

Interpreter Of Maladies won the Pulitzer. The God Of Small Things won the Booker prize and became a best seller. The Inheritance of Loss won the Man Booker Prize. Ok, I am no Lahiri, Roy or Desai. But how will you know about my writing potential, unless you give me a chance and get this book published. So you see by discovering my book on this blog and taking the chance to publish it, you have nothing to loose. Its a win-win situation! So grab this opportunity and let me know if you are interested. For if you don’t, then the only thing you loose is a great chance to win :)

Here is a comment about my book:

Dear Ratna,
…From what we write, not all gets published. From what is printed, not all is read. From what is read, not all is understood and not all experienced. Writing is Shrant Sukhaya, sheer pleasure to the inner soul. Keep it up. One day it will be a classic.
